La Antigua Guatemala, Cultural Heritage of Humanity Site
It is the third established capital by the Spanish after the flooding of the Valle de Almolonga on September 11th, 1541. It was founded on 1543 and named Ciudad de Santiago de Los Caballeros de Guatemala in 1566. After the plagues, earthquakes, and floodings, the telluric movement of 1773 ended up destroying it.
In order to create a new capital, the inhabitants gradually gave life again to the city that today is one of the biggest touristic attractions of Guatemala, due to its colonial architecture. It is an urbanism and colonial architecture jewel that preserves its features as if time had stood still. It was declared "Cultural Heritage of Humanity Site" by UNESCO in 1979, because of its immense cultural and historical value.

Peten, Heart of the Mayan World
Petén is considered the birthplace of the great Mayan culture. Its archeological treasures, such as Tikal, Rio Azul, Mundo Perdido, Uaxactun, Piedras Negras, Yaxchilan, El Naranjo, Ceibal, and many others, have made of it one of the most interesting centers of tourism. Mundo Maya International Airport is located in Flores City, Petén. It is the second largest airport, for both flight traffic and number of passengers.
